What are the pay rates at McDonald’s?
Our pay rates differ from role to role, but we always ensure that these rates remain competitive.
Every team member, including our hourly-paid workers, earn above the national minimum wage. We also offer a range of benefits including holiday and sick pay, and employee discounts that offer savings at over 1,600 retailers.

How often do I get paid?
This can vary depending on whether you work in a franchised or company owned restaurant. Typically, it can be every 2 or 4 weeks for hourly paid employees, and monthly for employees on a dedicated salary.
What type of shifts will I be doing and how many?
Our restaurant hours range from location to location, but over half of our restaurants are open 24 hours a day. We schedule most shifts to suit you, but also take working time legislation and our business needs into account.
What should I wear to work?
Just one of the benefits of working at McDonald’s is that you don’t have to worry about what to wear to work, we will supply you with a uniform.
Does McDonald’s promote its employees?
Definitely. We highly value talent and always aim to encourage employees to remain within our business. To put it into perspective, half of our Executive Team started in restaurants. At McDonald’s, there are no limits to how far or fast you can progress.

What are the entry requirements?
You must be at least 18 years of age and legally allowed to work in the UK.
How long is the programme?
12 months.
What team will I be part of?
You’ll be a key member of our Agriculture team and spend your time with an industry leading McDonald’s supplier and progressive farmer.
How long will I spend on each section of the placement?
On Farm Experience: Six months
Supply Chain Experience: Five months
McDonald’s Head Office: One month
Which suppliers could I be working with?
You'll have mentorship from a farmer who supplies McDonald’s with Beef, Chicken, Potatoes, Pork, Dairy and/or Eggs. (Opportunities will be with Cargill, Noble Foods, Moy Park and many others).
Finance Graduate Scheme
What qualifications will I receive?
You’ll earn a fully funded accounting qualification through an apprenticeship with Kaplan on their ACA, ACCA, or CIMA courses.
How long is the programme?
Rotational 3-year scheme.
What are the entry requirements?
At least 3 B’s (or equivalent UCAS Points) at A-Level.
What team will I be a part of?
You’ll rotate through roles within the Global Business Services (GBS) Finance Team and then move to Head Office to complete your training.
Which areas can I get experience in?
The experience you gain will span:
- Global Business Services (GBS) – Accounting & Finance
- Operations Finance
- Strategic Finance
- Financial Reporting & Controls
- Financial Planning & Analysis
- Real Estate Finance
Where will I be based?
For the first year, you’ll work with the GBS Finance team who are based in Sutton Coldfield (near Birmingham). You’ll then move to our Head Office in East Finchley, North London for the remaining 2 years.

How old do you need to be to work at McDonald’s?
You must be of school-leaving age (except for Student Work Experience opportunities). If you’re not sure on what this means, you can use the age checker in the eligibility section of our application form.
Is your online application process secure?
Yes. Privacy is important. So we make sure all personal information you provide is completely protected from unauthorised use.
Can I apply for more than one vacancy?
Yes. You can apply for as many vacancies, in as many locations as you wish! But we’ll only consider one of your applications at a time. So, be sure to think carefully about what role(s) you do apply for and where you wish to work.
How long will it take to apply online?
Our application process is almost as fast as our food. It should only take between 3-6 minutes to complete the online application. The specific time frame will differ depending on the role you are applying for.
Why is my local restaurant not showing any vacancies?
All our restaurants advertise their vacancies right there on our website. So if there aren't any listed this means they’re not currently hiring.
What does ‘franchised restaurant’ mean in a job listing?
A franchised restaurant is a restaurant operated by a local businessperson trading under the McDonald's name. Currently over 88% of our restaurants in the UK are franchised. But, from a customer point of view, there's no noticeable difference. For employees however, there will be differences between a company and a franchised restaurant. For instance, franchised restaurant workers are employed by the franchises themselves. We list any further differences that you’ll need to know in the individual job details.
