They just issued a blizzard warning for us.

BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON MONDAY TO 4 AM EDT WEDNESDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CHARLESTON HAS ISSUED A BLIZZARD WARNING... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM NOON MONDAY TO 4 AM EDT WEDNESDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

* LOCATIONS... BEST CHANCES ACROSS HIGH TERRAIN... BUT CAN NOT BE RULED OUT ALONG THE VALLEYS.

* HAZARD TYPES... HEAVY WET SNOW... AND STRONG GUSTY WINDS.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS... RANGING FROM 1 TO 6 INCHES BELOW 2000 FEET... TO OVER A FOOT ABOVE 2500 FEET.

* WINDS... INCREASING ON MONDAY WITH GUSTS OF 30 TO 40 MPH. SOME OF THE HIGHEST RIDGES COULD GUST TO NEAR 45 MPH.

* VISIBILITIES... WHITEOUT CONDITIONS AT TIMES.

* TIMING... RAIN WILL CHANGE TO SNOW OVERNIGHT SUNDAY NIGHT ACROSS HIGH TERRAIN... BUT HEAVIEST ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE MONDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH TUESDAY. LOWER ELEVATIONS MAY STRUGGLE TO CHANGE OVER TO SNOW. BEST CHANCES FOR CHANGING TO SNOW IN THE LOWER ELEVATIONS WOULD BE MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY.

* IMPACTS... THE HEAVY WET SNOW MAY BRING DOWN TREE LIMBS... CAUSING POWER OUTAGES OR FLUCTUATIONS. SNOW LOADING... OR THE WEIGHT OF THE SNOW... MAY CAUSE STRUCTURAL DAMAGE. THE COMBINATION OF SNOW AND WIND WOULD LEAD TO REDUCED VISIBILITY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A BLIZZARD WARNING MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. FALLING AND BLOWING SNOW WITH STRONG WINDS AND POOR VISIBILITIES ARE LIKELY. THIS WILL LEAD TO WHITEOUT CONDITIONS... MAKING TRAVEL EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. DO NOT TRAVEL. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL... HAVE A WINTER SURVIVAL KIT WITH YOU. IF YOU GET STRANDED... STAY WITH YOUR VEHICLE.

Isn't this whole storm just crazy? I can only imagine what the next couple of days will bring to the Northeast. I am in Va in the Hampton Roads area. So far not bad. The winds are starting to pick up now. Lot's of local flooding in the flood prone areas. Tomorrow morning is going to be pretty bad around here for flooding. The local news just said that Duck's high tides and flooding will rival Isabel's. Not look good for them either.

I used to drive up 77 all the time to Ohio when I worked for my Uncle in Salisbury NC, sometimes every week, I will never forget the storm of the century, we had trailers to take to Ohio and I went ahead and left early sunday, and glad I did, I just gotten past the first tunnel when they closed the Highway, I had never seen it snow so heavy, biggest snowflakes in the world!

I'm in the Buffalo, NY region and they're saying we're going to have tropical storm level winds AND potential snow at the same time. I'm hoping they are just hyping it up to err on the side of caution, but this is definitely not going to be a fun week for many people on the Eastern side of the US!

Snow arrived. Interesting ride to work this morning. The one thing that i didn't want to happen did. I was afraid I would have to stop completely going up the mtn and the road would be slick and slushy that's the only thing that makes me nervous about driving a stick shift. A tree was down and I had to wait for them to clear it and I pulled out without any problems & got through and went a few hundred feet and
another one fell behind me. Trees are weighed down by the snow and are snapping. They were some big tree limbs in a couple of curves that you had to go completely on the other side of the road in a curve to get by. I was glad when I got off the mountain this morning. My little Chevy Sonic didn't good on it's first snow excursion lol

Hey Nut,

Been looking at your weather just now, and it looks like you got more comin'....! Drive carefully. BTW, if you are good at easin' out on the clutch, you migth try to see how a 2nd gear start helps reduce wheel slippage.

They're talking about 2-3' of snow up in the high areas around Snowshoe, Cranberry Bogs, Chaet Mtn, etc. I had a radio link survey to conduct in those mountains in the next couple of weeks but that looks like it will wait until April or so....

We just have an inch up here on the Blue Rdige, but have never had snow stick this early in the year here in 22+ years.
